This Week in Baseball (April 10-16)

MLB Notes

Yelich brings his power to the plate in a 10-7 win over the Cardinals

Christian Yelich’s idea of good is well above that of most other people as he was quoted saying, “I feel like I haven’t played good at all this year”. Well, he definitely played good on Monday night swatting three homers along with 7 RBI. Combined with Mike Moustakas’ homer and pitcher Freddy Peralta’s RBI single, the Brewers had a whopping six runs cross the plate during the second inning, giving them a huge advantage in St. Louis for the remainder of the game. As of Wednesday, the Brewers are 4-1 over the past five games, the only loss coming against the Dodgers on Sunday.

Davis goes from hitless to on fire

Chris Davis wasn’t on a good path entering Saturday’s game, sitting at 0 for 54, the longest hitless streak in MLB History. however, he emerged from his major slump unleashing his power at Fenway Park against the Red Sox. He had three hits to go along with four RBI, then followed that up on Monday, knocking his first homer of the season. With hope, Davis will quickly emerge from his slump to play as the all-star first baseman had played throughout his career, with power and key hitting ability.

The Return of Kershaw

Dodger fans had been waiting for Clayton Kershaw’s first start of 2019 and it finally happened on Monday night, against the Reds. Kershaw did not disappoint, picking up his first win of the season, a 4-3 victory. Kershaw threw seven innings, striking out six while only allowing two earned runs. Adding to the excellent pitching of Kershaw, Joc Pederson had two hits and a walk as did Justin Turner who paved the way on the offensive end for the one-run victory.
