Rays sweep the White Sox

By Bob Zayas

April 10th: The Tampa Bay Rays swept the Chicago White Sox on a cold and rainy Wednesday afternoon at Guaranteed Rate Field on the South Side of Chicago. The Rays won the two previous games 5 to 1 and 10 to 5.

With a slow start in this young 2019 season by the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees, Tampa Bay is now leading the AL East Division by 3 ½ games. The Rays entered this final game of the series with the White Sox with a 9 and 3 record. As a team Tampa Bay is hitting .248 with 46 RBIs and 11 homeruns. Their pitching has been very good with a team ERA of 2.06 which is the best in the MLB (the MLB ERA average is 4.38). They are 8 and 2 in their last 10 games.

The start of the game was delayed for over an hour due to bad weather. The White Sox, 3 and 7 on the season, ran into trouble quickly when 8 pitches into the game Rays Tommy Pham hit a 2 run homer. Rays scored another run in the inning off an RBI single. Starting White Sox pitcher, Reynaldo Lopez, threw 33 pitches before getting out of the first inning. The Rays continued to have hot bats and scored 3 in the 4th, 2 in the 5th and 1 in the 9th.

Rays starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow gave up only 2 hits and K’d 11 in 6 innings. With the win, he is now 3 and 0 with an ERA of 0.53.

The final score: Tampa Bay 9 and the White Sox 1.
