Formula 1 athletes are a unique group and Lewis Hamilton is no exception. A British racing champion, Lewis drives for Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1 Team. Lewis, greatest in his sport and arguably one of the greatest of all time, is more than a F1 driver. Read on to discover 10 things you should know about Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton.
1. He was born in Stevenage, England where he attended John Henry Newman school, a secondary Catholic school and later, Cambridge University.
2. He became interested in racing after his dad bought him a remote control car and he began competing British Radio Car Association competitions. Shortly after at the age of 6 he placed second in the BRCA championships. It would only be two years later, at 8 years old, that Lewis would begin to be known as a dangerous competitor in the world of karting.
3. Lewis made history at the age of 13 years old when he was contracted by the F1 team, McLaren. It was the youngest anyone had ever secured an F1 contract.
4. He has a half brother named Nicholas Hamilton who has cerebral palsy. Nicholas has been racing touring cars in the UK for a few years. He currently competes for RoKit Racing with Team Hard.
5. Lewis Hamilton’s list of achievements in the world of racing is impressive and extensive. He has 84 wins, which is the second highest of all times. Not only that, he has finished on the podium 151 times. He also has won six championship individual titles. Lewis has won at least one leg of every race he has ever qualified for.
6. Lewis Hamilton began his career with McLaren F1 in 2007. In 2013 he went to Mercedes where he currently is today.
7. Hamilton not only loves going fast he loves collecting fast sports cars. He has a really cool and extensive collection including a Mercedes AMG 663, Pagani Zonda 760 and Ferrari Laferrari.
8. Hamilton has always enjoyed being active. In his off time he likes to engage in adventure sports such as skiing and surfing.
9. His favorite athlete of all time is Muhammad Ali and favorite movie is Disney’s Cool Runnings.
10. In his free time Lewis Hamilton travels the globe. He has purchased a number of homes around the world including Monaco, New York City and Colorado.
