Bowl Games 101: Appalachian State-North Texas

Bowl Season is finally here...just two days after the regular season concluded on Saturday. Kicking off this year's slate of 29 games is none other than the inaugural Myrtle Beach Bowl, pitting 8-3 Appalachian State from the Sun Belt Conference against 4-5 North Texas, representing Conference USA.

Kickoff time: 1:30 pm CT

TV: ESPN

Place: Conway, South Carolina (Brooks Stadium)

Here's three things to watch for:

Watch for Jaelon Darden: The centerpiece of North Texas' offense, the wide receiver is coming off a four-touchdown performance in the season finale, a win over UTEP. A 5'9 speedster, Darden has emerged as one of the country's top wideouts, leading the nation in receiving touchdowns with 19.

App State perfect in the postseason: When it comes to performance in bowl games, the Mountaineers have been one of the best, posting a 5-0 record in the postseason as a FBS program.

Offense vs. Defense: North Texas definitely has some playmakers on the offensive side of the ball, but App State has proven to be unstoppable on defense. Through 11 games, the Mountaineer defense has surrendered just 313 yards per game, 12th best in the nation.

Prediction: Appalachian State, behind a strong presence on defense, becomes the first ever champion of the Myrtle Beach Bowl with a 45-17 victory.
